The DZNE research group of Dr. von Engelhardt, situated in Heidelberg, is looking for a
Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m)
in Molecular Biology
- Code 1104/2012/2 -
The DZNE is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on neurodegenerative diseases. The center includes eight high-performing sites in Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.
For the DZNE research group "Synaptic Signalling and Neurodegeneration" headed by Dr. Jakob von Engelhardt, we are looking for a Postdoc. Our group investigates glutamate receptor channels and AMPA receptor auxiliary proteins (von Engelhardt et al., Science 2010). Our research focuses on the role of glutamate receptor mediated transmission for neuronal function (e.g. synaptic plasticity, see von Engelhardt et al., Neuron 2008). In addition, we are interested in the contribution of glutamate receptors to pathophysiological processes implicated in brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's and stroke. To this end we analyze different transgenic and knockout mouse lines by electrophysiological and anatomical means. The lab offers an excellent infrastructure in a unique research environment. This includes opportunities for collaborations with research groups of the University Heidelberg (e. g. Prof. Hannah Monyer), the Interdisciplinary Center of Neuroscience and the Max-Planck-Institute of Medical Research in Heidelberg.
The candidate should have a degree in natural sciences and a strong background in neuroscience as well as related technical skills. Experience in molecular biology and cell culture is required. He/She should be a team player interested in interdisciplinary research and able to work independently.
For further information, please contact Dr. Jakob von Engelhardt (Jakob.vonEngelhardt@dzne.de).
The position is available immediately. Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (Tarifvertrag für den Öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD). The job location is Heidelberg, Germany.
The DZNE seeks to increase the number of female personnel in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. The DZNE is committed to employing disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
Interested candidates should send their applications including a CV, a letter stating research interests and the names and contact information of two references to: application@dzne.de.
