A planning process of a new production facility is challenged by increasing requirements on flexibility, energy and resource efficiency, while simultaneously reducing time and costs in order to retain the economic competitiveness. The design and construction process of future factories therefore requires close collaboration of all stakeholders, integrating models and processes from building design and production planning domains.
The concepts of Industrie 4.0, Digital Twins, and Building Information Modelling are increasingly used as enabler for more transparent and efficient factory planning and operation as well as for significant reduction of energy and resources consumption and realization times. In order to achieve the holistic digital factory and working space, the development of methods and tools for integration of above-mentioned concepts, as well as generation of new systemic knowledge through interdisciplinary cooperation across planning domains is needed.
