Assistant Professorship (Tenure Track)
for Female Candidate in "Sustainable Cementitious Materials"
fixed-term (6 years) fulltime (40h per week)
In form of an initially fixed-term (6 years) fulltime (40h per week) tenure track position starting from 1st September 2019. The candidate and TU Wien can agree upon a tenure evaluation, which when positive, opens the possibility to change the position to Associate Professor with an unlimited contract.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering offers excellent working conditions in an attractive research environment in a city with exceptional quality of life. The tenure-track position is affiliated to the Institute of Material Technology, Building Physics and Building Ecology at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Duties include research and teaching in the field of "Sustainable Cementitious Materials".
We seek a creative early-career scholar with backgrounds in Material Sciences, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Chemical Engineering. The candidate should show dedication to develop interdisciplinary research projects, be stimulated by engineeringmotivated problems, be willing to seek grants and industrial partnerships, show passion for mentoring Master and PhD students and participate in curriculum in the Civil Engineering Department. Candidates with background in one of two broad areas are of particular interest: (1) relationships microstructure/macroscopic properties in cementitious materials (2) fluid mechanics and behavior of suspensions.
Tasks
Research
- Strengthen and enrich the current research activities in cementitious materials, sustainability in construction materials, durability of buildings, high performance concrete, thermal isolation materials, as well as mixing, rheology, pumpability and stability of cement/concrete slurries
- Contribute to the challenges posed by the increasing use recycled/waste materials and sustainable cementitious materials, with focus on the entire lifecycle of the material, from the fluid/suspension behavior, to the solid mechanical properties, and the fatigue/long-term behavior
- Support and develop a vigorous externally funded research program
- Maintain a strong publication record
Teaching
The successful candidate will teach in classes and lab courses of the Bachelor curricula Civil Engineering and Master curricula Civil Engineering Science and advise Master and PhD students.
Leadership & Administration
Contribute leadership and innovative thinking toward excellent programs and projects within the department and the university.
Qualification Requirements
- University Master and Doctoral degree or equivalent and proficiency in English
- Outstanding achievements and potential in research, excellent publication record, international reputation
- Experience in academic teaching (classes and lab courses)
- Experience in designing and participating in research projects, as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups, willingness to acquire third-party funding
- Scientific activity outside TU Wien, preferentially outside Austria

The employment starts as University Assistant with a minimum salary of EUR 3.711,10 gross (14x per year) according to the collective bargaining agreement for a PostDoc. After signing the qualification agreement, the employment is as Assistant Professor with a minimum salary of EUR 4.388,70 (14x per year).
