Curator / Senior Curator (f/m) at the Munch Museum
Oslo kommune Munchmuseet
Permanent position as curator/senior curator at the Munch Museum in Oslo
In 2020, the Munch Museum will open its new building in the centre of Oslo, in the newly developed harbour area Bjørvika – in a cultural hub together with The Norwegian Opera and Ballet from 2008 and the new Oslo Public Library. The exhibition spaces of the new building will be five times larger than what the museum has today. This will greatly expand the scope and possibilities of the museum.
The Munch Museum houses a large part of Edvard Munch‘s complete works, which he bequeathed to the City of Oslo at the end of his life. The collection consists of around 28.000 works of art: paintings, prints, drawings, sketchbooks, photographs and sculptures. This gives the Munch Museum a unique position in both a Nordic and international context, and the museum collaborates with leading art institutions all over the world. In addition to works by Munch, the museum also houses the collection of Rolf E. Stenersen. The new museum will present the collection, as well has having an ambitious and wide-ranging program of temporary exhibitions, including modernism and contemporary art.
We are looking for an art historian, specialized in modern art from the 19th and 20th century, preferably with a PhD. The museum is characterized by an international professional milieu, which we wish to complement with someone with extensive experience of curatorial practice and art historical research. Specialist competence in works on paper is desirable.
The Munch Museum is a public museum, owned by the City of Oslo. We are an equal opportunities employer and can offer good terms of employment.
The deadline for applying for the post is 28 February.
