The
Institute for Integrated Natural Sciences, Department of Physics, University Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz, is inviting applications for a
Doctoral Position Material Science/Polymer Engineering
(1,0 EGr. 13 TV-L)
which is subject to the German law on fixed-term contracts in science (WissZeitVG). The anticipated start date for the position is April 1
st, 2018. The position is limited to three years.
Topic:
The project deals with the development of new materials for thermoplast tape laying. Tape laying is an additive process in which a unidirectional, endless fiber reinforced tape is locally molten and placed onto a mold or component. In this way locally reinforced or multi layered structures for high performance, light weight applications, e.g. in the automotive sector, are obtained. The goal of the current project is to improve the adhesion/bonding of the thermoplastic tape to non-identical materials. The project will be a joined collaboration with Capricorn Composite GmbH (
http://www.capricorngroup.net/en/) and A+Composites GmbH (
http://www.aplus-composites.de/).
Requirements:
The successful candidate requires a master degree in Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or similar fields. Proven theoretical and practical experience in polymer additives and/or functionalization and thermoplast processing (in particular extrusion, compounding), good English communication skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team are mandatory. Additional knowledge in one of the following disciplines is desirable: polymer characterization in particular mechanical characterization, (endless) fiber reinforced polymer materials, thermosets, adhesives and tape layering. Very strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, ability to work independently, experience in writing publications and good presentation skills are essential. The position also includes close interaction with the collaborating companies and frequent stays at their sites.
