German Aerospace Center DLRNeustrelitz
Start your mission with DLR.
The German Aerospace Center DLR has a dual mandate as the national research center for aeronautics and space, and as the
space agency of the German federal government. Approximately 8,000 people work for DLR on a uniquely diverse range of
topics spanning the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport and security research. They collaborate on projects
extending from fundamental research to the development of the innovative applications and products of the future. If the
idea of joining a top-class team of researchers working in a supportive, inspirational environment appeals to you, then
why not launch your mission with us?
Our Institute of Communications and Navigation in Neustrelitz wishes to recruit a qualified
Electrical Engineer, Geodesist or similar
Resilient Sensor Fusion Based Determination of Position, Navigation and Timing Data for Safe Vessel Navigation
At the Institute of Communications and Navigation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) at the location of Neustrelitz we develop new technologies
for save navigation of vessels. As a member of a young, motivated and interdisciplinary research team, you will be responsible for advancements
of our approaches at theoretical level as well as for practical testing of dedicated components and systems. The overarching goal of your research
activities will be the optimal fusion of onboard sensors in order to provide integrity information for all navigation related parameter, like position,
course and velocity of a vessel and to contribute insofar for the safety of life at sea.
Signals from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (like GPS or GALILEO) are currently the main source for the provision of position, navigation and
timing data for merchant shipping. However, an onboard integrity assessment of the provided information is still missing.
Your work will focus on the development of methods and algorithms for the estimation of the currently achieved accuracy. For this purpose pure GNSS
based methods (RAIM or ARAIM) as well as methods based on recursive Bayesian filtering using additional sensors like inertial, speed log or gyro
compass can be applied.
We would like to motivate you to publish the results of your work in relevant journals and present them on international conferences. Furthermore
we encourage you to create and develop new ideas and projects.
finished study of electrical engineering, geodesy, math, physics or similar (diploma/master degree)
profound knowledge of data and sensor fusion based on recursive Bayesian filtering
good knowledge on GNSS based positioning algorithms
good programming skills in Matlab and C++
good communication skills in English and German (speaking and writing)
experiences in the usage of GNSS for safety of life critical applications applying RAIM or ARAIM methods are an advantage
ideally knowledge in the field of maritime sensors
knowledge in project acquisition is welcome
