The Faculty of Physics of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen
invites applications for a
Full Professorship (W2)
for „Dynamics and Biological Physics“
at the Institut für Nichtlineare Dynamik to be filled as soon as possible.
The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Theoretical
Physics of network-dynamic neuronal and biological systems in
research and teaching. It is expected that the successful candidate
participates in the research focus „Primate Cognition“, the CRC 889
„Cellular Mechanisms of Sensory Processing“, the CRC 1286, „Quantitative
Synaptology“ and the Bernstein Center for Computational
Neuroscience (BCCN), of the University of Göttingen. She or he will
have a central role in a new interfaculty „Institute for Dynamics of
Biological Networks“ being founded and will further strengthen
research and teaching in theoretical and computational physics of biological
networks at the Göttingen Campus.
In their research, candidates should be distinguished by outstanding,
international publications, by the successful leadership of interdisciplinary
research projects and by the development of novel theoretical
and mathematical approaches to the structure and function of biological
networks. An internationally outstanding research program in the field
of theoretical and mathematical neurophysics is expected. Relevant
research questions include in particular the theory of self-organization,
evolution and optimization of large-scale networks in the cortex and
their quantitative description, chaos and nonlinear dynamics of spiking
neuronal networks and the influence of biophysical mechanisms on
their information processing and phase space organization.
This job offer is based on Paragraph 25 of the Law on Higher Education
of Lower Saxony in its current version. Please enquire for further
details. The right for appointing the position is at the Foundation University
Göttingen. Applications from scientists from abroad are particularly
welcome. Part-time employment is possible. If equally qualified,

Göttingen is an equal opportunity employer and places particular emphasis
on fostering career opportunities for women. Qualified women
are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. The University defines itself
as family-friendly institution and supports the reconcilability of family
and science/working life.
Interested candidates should send their application, including curriculum
vitae, teaching experience, publication list with a description of the
importance and impact of up to five key publications, future research
plans, and certificates, no later than 3rd December 2017 to the Dean of
the Faculty of Physics, Prof. Dr. Tim Salditt, via electronic web system:
