The
University of Potsdam, Digital Engineering Faculty hereby announces two joint professorships with the
Hasso Plattner Institute
for Digital Engineering gGmbH (HPI) under the Jülich Model, to be filled as soon as possible:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Digital Energy:
Decentralization and Ubiquity of Energy
The professorship build upon a solid computer science foundation including, but not limited to, theoretical, practical, and technical computer
science, data science and engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, computer engineering, simulation and modeling, and
electrical engineering and apply this foundation to novel problems in the domain of digital energy-ranging from smart grids to smart homes.
The professorship "Digital Energy: Decentralization and Ubiquity of Energy" will be concerned with analysis, design, and engineering of
software systems related to local energy development, production, distribution, and consumption and the ongoing decentralization of power
via micro grids.
The professorships focus on system- and method-oriented research that is closely related to complex IT systems and applications in
science, industry, and society. Applicants have exceptional competence in research and development. Experience in working with external
partners and pursuing and securing research projects with third parties is an advantage. Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate teaching
experience and are expected to contribute to the faculty's bachelor's and master's programs.

The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich or Thuringian Model, with a teaching obligation according to Section 40 (9) of
the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG) at the University of Potsdam. For an appointment
according to the Thüringen Model, an employment contract will be concluded between HPI and the professor. The right to use the title
"Professor" outside the higher education sector as a professional designation is granted for the duration of the employment relationship
with the HPI.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher
Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a particular ability
for scientific and scholarly work, typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and
additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research
associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector or in another
social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
