The University of Potsdam, Faculty of Arts, School of
Jewish Theology, invites applications for the following
position to be filled by spring, 2022:
Full Professorship (W3) for Jewish Religion and Philosophy
The future holder of the post will represent the full
disciplinary breadth of the research and teaching of Jewish
religious thought with a systematic theological focus.
In order to promote interreligious competence among
students, profound knowledge of Islamic philosophy in
research and teaching would be an additional asset. The
successful candidate is expected to cooperate with the
Department of Jewish Studies and Religious Studies and
the Department of Life Orientation – Ethics – Religion
(L-E-R). Close cooperation with the Abraham Geiger
College (AGK) and the Zacharias Frankel College would
be particularly welcome.
The duties of the professorship include teaching in the
degree programs of the School of Jewish Theology as
well as supervising doctoral and post-doctoral theses.
The position requires special familiarity with internal
Jewish perspectives and orientations. Applicants must be
members of a Jewish congregation.
A habilitation or habilitation equivalent in Jewish religious
philosophy and intellectual history, Jewish or Judaic
studies is expected. Non-German speakers are expected
to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first
two years of their appointment.
