hereby announces a joint professorship under the
Jülich Model with the
German
Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), to be filled immediately:
Full Professorship (W 3)
for Organic Geochemistry
We invite applications from candidates with a demonstrated research record
combining organic geochemistry with geology and biology based on modern instrumentation,
predominantly in the field of "Solid Earth". The successful candidate
will head the GFZ "Organic Geochemistry" Group. Tasks include conducting and
publishing outstanding original research related to the origin, composition, distribution
and fate of terrestrial organic matter within the carbon cycle from deep to
the shallow Earth and from geological time spans to the present day. An essential
responsibility of the position is to oversee a suite of first-class laboratories and
support innovations in the development of techniques and applications. Furthermore,
we expect the holder of the position to teach at the University of Potsdam.
The successful candidate's qualifications include research excellence in the field
of organic geochemistry, expertise in analytical technique development, and the
application of organic geochemical techniques to fundamental research questions.
The successful candidate will have experience in leading a large, multi-faceted
research group and in teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate level.
The GFZ and the University of Potsdam are partnered with Geo.X (
www.geo-x.net),
and as such are well connected with other geoscience institutions in Potsdam and
Berlin. Geo.X forms the largest regional cluster of geoscientific expertise in Europe
and offers excellent opportunities for cooperation and development.
The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with teaching responsibilities
at the University of Potsdam.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in
accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches
Hochschulgesetz, or BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical
talent, and a particular aptitude for scientific and scholarly work, as is
typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in
science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a
Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research
associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research
institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field,
whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance
with Section 40 BbgHG.
