The Faculty of Management, Economics and Society currently invites applications for the position of a
Junior Professorship in Political Science with Tenure Track (equivalent to W1 pay scale)
The newly established professorship will be set up within the Department of Philosophy, Politics & Economics.
The contract term is initially limited to 3+3 years with the potential of transforming the position into a permanent position afterwards. Upon appointment, the criteria for tenure will be determined.
After a positive assessment at the end of the tenure period, the position will become a tenured professorship (equivalent to W2 pay scale).
Your tasks
Research
To complement the department’s variety of perspectives and methodological pluralism in research, we are looking for a promising candidate (f/m/d) with a specialization in comparative politics or political behavior. The Department is particularly interested in a candidate who studies political participation, identity politics, or inequality.
Methodologically, we seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: experiments, field experiments, survey research, or fieldwork. Finally, candidates should be open to interdisciplinary research as conducted in the Department.
Teaching
To enable students to reach their full potential, the Department organizes teaching exclusively in interactive seminars with small class sizes (one 90-minute session per week). The teaching load is 2+2 courses in the first three years and 3+3 for the remaining three years. We expect candidates to offer modules in their area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate level. We specifically seek candidates who promote innovative teaching and learning methods that foster students’ personal responsibility.
Qualifications
In addition to the general requirements in accordance with § 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act, successful candidates (f/m/d) have to demonstrate proof of teaching aptitude, exceptional academic work, and a PhD degree prior to their appointment.
