Junior Professorship (W1) with Tenure Track to Full Professorship (W3)
in the area of
Sustainable Building Materials

The School of Civil Engineering seeks to appoint an individual who will establish basic research in the field of Sustainable Building Materials. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Material Science and be in an early carreer phase with a proven track record in research and teaching. Successful acquisition of research grants is an asset. Relevant areas of research include, but are not restricted to, the following topics:
- Development of sustainable building materials with low CO2 emissions
- Development of ecological materials for a circular economy
- Development of long-lasting, climate-robust materials
- Recycling and reuse
- Assessment of sustainability in construction, operation and deconstruction (not as a predominate research topic)
In the mentioned research areas there are excellent opportunities for cooperation both at the TUHH and at other universities and research institutions in Hamburg as well as with industrial partners. Further, the willingness to raise third-party funds is expected. The ability and willingness to creatively play a part in the development of the research fields “Logistics, Mobility & Infrastructure”, “Environmental & Energy Systems” and “Advanced Materials & (Bio) Processes” and to strengthen the profile of civil engineering at the TUHH in a committed manner are central requirements for employment.
The future junior professor is expected to teach in German and English in the courses of study of the School of Civil Engineering. They will employ innovative teaching methods and actively participate in the development of new study programs
This professorship is financed by the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track
Program.
This junior professorship is due to commence as soon as possible.
The appointment is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of an extension for a further three years after a positive interim evaluation. In the event of a positive final evaluation, the position will be converted into a permanent W3 full professorship.
