The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of the leading research universities. The university draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.
The chair “Materials Discovery and Interfaces” at the Institute for Materials is developing new multifunctional materials by using combinatorial deposition processes (material libraries) and high-throughput characterization methods. For this we develop MEMS such as electrode-, cantilever-, microhotplate- and nanoneedle-arrays, to use as tools for highthroughput materials science. All technologies for fabricating these MEMS (especially dry etching equipment) are already available at our chair and in the new science building ZGH.
In order to strengthen the international and efficient team at the department, the position of a postdoc(m/f/d) is to be occupied as soon as possible. The topic will be “Fabrication and characterization of MEMS for combinatorial materials science”. The task area of the postdoc (m/f/d) will comprise experimental work (design, fabrication and characterization of MEMS, process development), maintenance of machines, supporting the professor by applying for third-party funds (e.g. networking with industry partners, writing project proposals), working on industry and public funded projects as well as mentoring students (bachelor- and master-thesis) and PhD students.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist (m/f/d) with a very good knowledge in the field of MEMS technology (and preferably materials science), who dares to approach new, exciting and promising topics in an interdisciplinary environment and who has the ambition, with the available extraordinary experimental possibilities, to efficiently generate new scientific knowledge, publish the results and transfer them into possible applications.
It is expected from the future postdoc (m/f/d) to work independently with a high motivation, to work with target-oriented teams, to document the results achieved in the form of reports and scientific publication, having very good scientific, technical and communication skills, English language fluent both spoken and written.
Please send your complete and informative application documents (informative cover letter, CV with certificates, 3 publications) as one pdf document to the e-mail mentioned at the bottom.

At Ruhr-Universität Bochum, we wish to promote careers of women in areas in which they have been underrepresented, and we would therefore like to encourage female candidates to send us their applications. Applications by suitable candidates with severe disabilities and other applicants with equal legal status are likewise most welcome.
