Postdoc Position Control of a powered knee prosthesis
Postdoc Position: Control of a powered knee prosthesis
38.0 hours per week
€ 3111 - € 4757
University of Twente (UT)
We are looking for a talented scientist in the field of wearable robotics. So far trans-femoral (above knee) amputees only have limited choices
for knee prosthesis, either lightweight non-motorized devices or heavy motorized devices. A knee prosthesis, which is lightweight and can provide
active support, is not yet commercially available. This is largely due to technological challenges in design and control algorithms.
To push the technology limits further, the Reboocon group has developed a motorized prosthetic knee. The hardware specification is superior to
existing devices. Now the control algorithms have to be further developed.
The goal of this research is to develop algorithms, which enable amputees wearing powered knee prostheses to achieve functional mobility. By implementing
bio-inspired control algorithms, we hope that amputees can gain more natural, symmetrical, and efficient gait. The work involve human intention detection,
sensor data fusion and classification, control algorithms and possibly machine learning and artificial intelligence.
A private company funds this research. An invention, confidentiality and non-compete clause will be part of the postdoc contract.
We are seeking candidates that hold a PhD in robotics, (bio)mechatronics, biomedical engineering or a related field of expertise. You preferably have experience in engineering and in realising complete systems.
As a researcher we expect you to be inventive and result oriented. You are a conceptual thinker and need excellent collaboration and communication
skills. You keep yourself updated on the latest developments in your field of expertise and you stay in touch with your network. In particular we
are looking for a candidate with relevant experience in controller development of wearable robots, especially in lower-limb prosthesis control; who
has thorough understanding of multi-rigid body dynamics and human gait(biomechanics and dynamics of walking), who is experienced with dynamic system
simulation and modelling, who is proficient in C/C++ programming, who is fluent in English, and who would like to pursue a career in one of the
Reboocon companies after postdoc track.
