The Institute of Geography has 10 research units and several associated and assistant professors. It hosts a large number of master and PhD students and post-doctoral researchers. The Institute of Geography has an excellent reputation for teaching as well as for disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in Physical Geography, Human Geography, and Integrative Geography.
The successful candidate is expected to teach the entire disciplinary range of Soil Science and Soil Geog-raphy at the undergraduate and graduate level (including field and laboratory courses and excursions). The research should be focused on matter fluxes/soil biogeochemistry. The professorship should make use of the existing laboratory facilities and use modern analytical field and laboratory methods including trace and stable isotope analytics to investigate the consequences of environmental change, particularly climate change, for element cycles in soils as well as soil ecosystem services. The professorship contributes to the geography of global change and also offers a link to applied research (e.g., in the field of soil protection) and to other working groups at the Institute of Geography that are dealing with sustainability, natural resource management, paleosols, or regional development. A strong commitment in one or several thematic Clusters of the Institute is expected, as well as collaborations in research centers of the university such as the Oeschger Center for Climate Change and the Center for Development and Environment.
Open rank calls for a professorship offer the possibility of adapting the offer to a suitable candidate’s past achievements and future competencies. The position may rank from tenure track assistant professor to full professor (Extraordinariat or Ordinariat).
