The Institute of Geography of the University of Bern http://www.geography.unibe.ch/ invites applications for the position of Professor of Hydrology (open rank from assistant professor tenure-track to full professor; level commensurate with achievements). The Professor of Hydrology leads the research unit of hydrology, one of ten research units at the institute. The Institute of Geography has an excellent reputation for teaching as well as for disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in Physical Geography, Human Geography, and Integrative Geography.
The successful candidate is expected to teach the entire disciplinary range of hydrology at the undergraduate and graduate level (including field courses and excursions). The research should focus on modelling or theoretical studies and should be complemented by empirical studies (field and/or laboratory based). It should address hydrological extremes and/or water resources in the context of global change. The professorship addresses both fundamental and applied research. Collaboration within the Institute, and other units of the University (e.g. Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research, Mobiliar Lab for Natural Risks) and with international partners is strongly encouraged.
The position is advertised “open rank”. Depending on the candidate’s profile and achievements it can be filled on levels ranging from tenure track assistant professor to full professor (Extraordinariat or Ordinariat).
