Professor in » Intestinal Microbiome «
as W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track
option to W3) or W3 Associate/Full Professor; to begin as soon
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Life Sciences
Weihenstephan. The association of the professorship with the
ZIEL - Institute for Food and Health allows access to highthroughput
sequencing and gnotobiotic facilities. Our
interdisciplinary research programs focus on the microbial
ecosystem of the mammalian gut, dedicated to understand the
dynamic mechanisms of complex microbe-microbe and
microbe-host interactions in the context of health and diseases.
The professorship is anticipated to develop strong synergies
with members and research activities of the research
departments in Nutrition and Food Sciences, Animal Sciences
and Biosciences as well as the TUM School of Medicine.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as
the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an
expert working at the interface of microbial ecology and
biomedicine. The candidate is expected to have an excellent
scientific track record and expertise in metagenomic analysis,
intestinal microbiology and microbial ecology. Research related
to the functional relevance of complex microbial ecosystems in
the human and animal gut requires novel tools in the analysis of
complex microbial communities, including culture-dependent
and next generation sequencing analyses. Understanding the
dynamic adaptation processes of microbial ecosystems in
response to nutrition and diseases is of major interest. The
teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and
We are looking for a candidate with a university degree and an
outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific
qualification, who has demonstrated excellent achievements in
research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific
environment, regarding the relevant career level. The applicants
may have university and/or industry experience. International
scientific experience during the doctoral or postdoctoral phase
is expected. The successful candidate shows pedagogical
aptitude, including the ability to teach in English.
Based on best international standards and transparent
performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic
career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor
through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to
Full Professor. The regulations of TUM Faculty Recruitment and
