The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Heidelberg University invites
applications for a
TENURE-TRACK PROFESSORSHIP (W1)
IN EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS
Candidates are expected to develop a strong research program regarding the
realization of synthetic quantum systems. Platforms could be based upon,
but are not restricted to, ultracold quantum gases, circuit QED, photonic or
optomechanical quantum systems. The position is integral part of the recently
established Excellence Cluster "STRUCTURES" and will be located at the
Physikalisches Institut. The Excellence Cluster offers a stimulating academic
environment embracing physics, mathematics and computer science. The
position offers cooperation opportunities with complementary experimental
and theoretical activities within the Department of Physics and Astronomy,
in particular in the fields of ultracold quantum gases and neuromorphic
computing. The broader scientific environment includes the Heidelberg Center
for Quantum Dynamics (CQD), the Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), and
the Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPI-K).
The duties at the Department include teaching of experimental physics in
its full breadth at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The group will
participate in the graduate education programs within the Heidelberg Graduate
School for Physics (HGSFP) and the International Max-Planck Research
School for Quantum Dynamics (IMPRS-QD).
In accordance with Section 51 Landeshochschulgesetz Baden-Württemberg
(the Baden- Württemberg State Higher Education Act), this appointment
requires a completed university degree, an excellent doctorate, and pedagogical
aptitude which has generally been proven through teaching experience. The
professorship is a qualification position and we are thus searching for a young
personality with appropriate research experience.
The tenure track professorship (salary grade W1) will initially be limited to
six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a
permanent W3 professorship.
Further information on the tenure track program (e.g. the evaluation statute)
is available at the website of the human resources division
(
http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/tenuretrack).
The university aims to increase the number of women in areas in which they
have been underrepresented until now. Qualified female academics are
especially invited to apply. Preference will be given to disabled applicants who
are otherwise equally qualified for the position.
Applications along with the usual accompanying documents (research statement,
curriculum vitae detailing the scientific career, full publication list and a
list of previous lecture courses and talks) should be submitted electronically
(as a single pdf) by
