University of Potsdam
Potsdam
Professorship - Universität Potsdam - Logo
Young, modern and research-oriented: The University of Potsdam (UP) was founded in 1991 and has firmly established itself in the landscape of scholarship and science. It has also become an outstanding factor in regional economics and development. The University is highly successful in the acquisition of external funding, has received multiple awards for its teaching, and offers a service-oriented administration. About 21,000 students and 3,000 employees work at three locations -AmNeuen Palais, Griebnitzsee and Golm - at one of Germany's most beautiful academic institutions.
The University of Potsdam is the only institution of higher education in Brandenburg for the training of teachers and has about 4,200 students enrolled in bachelor's and master's degrees for certified teachers. The University has been part of the nationwide "Quality Campaign for Teacher Training" since 2015 and will also receive support until 2023 in a second phase of funding. Digitalization in the teaching and learning process is an important component of teacher training and is therefore a cross-disciplinary task for all professorships associated with teacher training. Teacher training is being improved, both in terms of quality and quantity, in the years leading up to 2020. This effort includes the establishment of 22 new professorships and the annual enrollment of 1,000 students in the bachelor's program.
The Faculty of Human Sciences of the University of Potsdam invites applications for one professorship in the field of inclusive education. We are looking for researchers of national and international stature who have a strong profile in empirical education research and teacher training. The successful candidates are expected to engage in the predominantly quantitative research of inclusion education in Potsdam. They will have excellent publications in international peer-reviewed journals, successful experience in acquisition of external funds and international networking. They are expected to engage particularly in the development of degree programs (including program internationalization) and actively cooperate with the Center for Teacher Training and Education Research (ZeLB). The language of instruction is German.
Documents can submitted in German or English. A German version of the advertisement can be found here: https://www.uni-potsdam.de/de/verwaltung/dezernat3/stellen.html.
The University of Potsdam invites application for the following position, to be filled as soon as possible:

Professorship (W2) of Inclusive Education for Cognitive and Emotional Developmental Disabilities

The successful candidate will engage in research and teaching with a special needs focus on intellectual disabilities. The candidate's research interests should focus on the analysis of pedagogical, didactic, and psychological strategies for teaching heterogeneous learning groups. He/she will contribute to the further development of inclusive concepts for the education of children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities will include teaching in primary- and secondary-level teacher degree programs, particularly the courses of study in special needs and inclusive education including pedagogic and didactic concepts of inclusive instruction, models of the genesis of developmental disorders, diagnostics, case management, and supervision. Teaching competences in the areas of relationship management and counseling of colleagues and parents are expected.
Applicants are required to have a degree in special needs education with a focus on the abovementioned aspects, or a related subject with the same focus. Professional experience in the preparation of expert opinions and development of individual education plans, as well as in counseling and intervention in cases of intellectual disabilities, are desirable.
The professorships advertised here are part of the new degree program for remedial education (secondary level) at the University of Potsdam. We expect close cooperation between the six professorships of this innovative course of studies with a strong connection to the subjects of German, mathematics, WAT (Economics, Work and Technology) and the Educational Sciences.
The University of Potsdam views the networking of scholarship and teaching in the education of teachers as a particular challenge. The holder of this position must be able to adequately represent both fields.
The University of Potsdam has a distinguished teacher education program that acknowledges the realities of school and instruction while also incorporating the latest research findings in the field; the program includes a high proportion of practical exercises. The "Potsdam Model" of teacher education will be further developed together with other professorships relevant to teacher training at the University of Potsdam and in cooperation with the Center for Teacher Training and Education Research. We expect a willingness to cooperate in continuing teacher education and an interest in crossfaculty collaboration.
The requirements for an appointment are enumerated in Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG).The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
The University strives for a balanced gender ratio at all levels. Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration in the event of equal qualification. We expressly invite applications from people with migration backgrounds.
The University of Potsdam offers dual career support and coaching for newly-appointed professors: www.uni-potsdam.de/berufungen.html.
