The Digital Engineering Faculty at the University of Potsdam hereby announces two joint professorships under the Jülich
Model with the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH to be filled immediately:
W3-Professorship for Cyber Security and Enterprise Security
The professors will be responsible for establishing the master‘s program in "Cyber Security" of the Digital Engineering Faculty
and developing an internationally recognized center of excellence regarding research and teaching within the field of cyber security.
The professorship with the emphasis on enterprise security aims to develop a new generation of security strategies, methods
and techniques for monitoring and defending extensive IT infrastructures, such as researching and developing complex
company networks within businesses, institutions and authorities. The desired expertise should lie within relevant fields such
as network security, firewall and intrusion detection/prevention and SIEM solutions, (big data) security analysis, penetration
tests and security audits, and include cyber attack modeling, vulnerability analysis as well as cyber defense and reaction for
large and complex business systems. Extensive knowledge and substantiated experience regarding the efficient processing
and analysis of large volumes of security-relevant data are expected, in order to identify complex attacks and anomalies.
The qualified candidate will have outstanding abilities in the field of research/development including extensive experience
therein. Furthermore, the candidate will have worked together with external partners from industry and economy and have
had experience in the procurement of third-party research projects. In addition, the candidate will be able to show a special
commitment to teaching and has the necessary experience for the development of the innovative "Cyber Security" master‘s
The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of at least 8 hours per week at the
University of Potsdam.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg
Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude,
and a special ability for scientific work, as is typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in
science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a
junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution,
or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure
is conducted in accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.
