The Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is a modern and dynamic university, striving for international excellence in research and teaching. It sets ideal conditions for unlocking the knowledge and innovation potential of today’s technological challenges by combining its engineering expertise in the three focal areas Green Technologies, Life Science Technologies and Aviation and Maritime Systems with cross-cutting research on digitization, engineering methods and new materials.
DESY, with its 2700 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world‘s leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.
The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchroton DESY and the Hamburg University of Technology jointly seek applications for a
PROFESSORSHIP W3 IN THE DOMAIN OF
3D MANUFACTURING OF HYBRID, MULTI-SCALE STRUCTURES
Ref. No. P2104
A newly created W3 professorship is being established in cooperation between TUHH and DESY. The aim of the professorship is to study, exploit and further develop the synergy of bottom-up self-assembly methods with top-down 3D technologies to develop novel hybrid multi-scale 3D material systems. The focus of hybrid material systems should be on combining ceramic, semiconducting or metallic materials with an
organic or biological functionalization. We welcome applicants with the potential to take up a key position in materials science in the Hamburg Metropolitan Region. Candidates for this position should have an excellent track record in fundamental and applied research in one or more of the following areas:
- Production of 3D processable, self-assembling, nanoscale materials systems
- Combination of self-assembly and 3D printing processes to produce complex, hybrid, locally anisotropic materials
- Development of devices based on 3D hybrid materials with extraordinary physical and/or electrochemical properties and potential applications in lightweight construction, energy generation and storage and medical technology
- In-situ high resolution X-ray investigation of 3D printing and self-assembling processes
Academically, the professorship benefits from the strong ties to materials sciences at the TUHH and DESY, and from the worldwide unique and outstanding large-scale analysis facilities on the DESY campus. The successful candidate for the position is expected to actively participate at the Center for Integrated Multiscale Materials Systems (CIMMS). In addition, an active participation/coordination of strategically relevant funding proposals in materials science, such as a proposal to the next German Excellence Initiative or European funding and others is expected. The future holder of the position is expected to teach within the Schools of Mechanical Engineering and General Engineering study Programs and will have the opportunity to teach in a new state-of-the-art Master’s program in materials science.
This appointment is due to commence in the 2022 summer term.
Desy and TUHH are equal opportunity employers and particularly welcome and encourages applications from women. TUHH is certified as a family-friendly university and supports dual careers. Applications by disabled persons with equal qualifications will be given preference. The legal framework of the Federal Republic of Germany applies (in Hamburg the law is applied pursuant to Section 15 HmbHG).
The deadline for applications is June 6, 2021.
