The
Department of Geography, as part of the Faculty of Mathematics and
Natural Sciences of the University of Bonn, is calling for applications for
the position of
Professor of Geography (W3)
with a specialization in Development Geography
to commence on January 1, 2023.
Candidates must be internationally recognized and complement the research
spectrum of the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn. Additionally,
candidates should specialize in theory-led empirical research on major societal
issues in the Global South. Experience in acquiring and leading third-party
funded projects is required.
We are looking for a candidate who is able to contribute to at least one of
the main profiles of the Department of Geography, to collaborative projects
of the University of Bonn, to the Collaborative Research Center Future Rural
Africa (SFB-TRR 228), to the Transdisciplinary Research Area Innovation and
Technology for Sustainable Futures (TRA-6) and to research at the intersection
between society and environment. Cooperation within the Department, the
Earth Sciences cluster and across University faculties is of key importance. The
position furthermore requires collaboration within the geoscientific network of
the Aachen-Bonn-Cologne/Jülich Research Area
(Geoverbund ABC/J).
Applicants must be able to teach across the entire breadth of Human Geography
and Development Geography. The position entails administrative responsibilities
for Geography degree programs and requires teaching in both German and
English. Candidates are expected to have excellent didactic skills and a passion
for teaching. The position requires involvement in all levels of academic selfadministration.
Candidates must hold a post-doctoral Habilitation or equivalent qualifications
as a prerequisite for hiring. Conditions of employment are in accordance with
§ 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW).
