According to the regulations of the Universitätsgesetz 2002 (University Act 2002) the position as:
of the Paris Lodron University Salzburg is to be filled as of 1st of October 2023.
The University of Salzburg was founded in 1622. Today, it consists of six faculties with about 18.000 students and 2.800 employees. It is the largest educational institution in Salzburg. The University of Salzburg offers a wide range of educational opportunities. Students can choose between 30 fields of study. They are divided into Bachelor, Master, Doctorate and Diploma studies. Students can choose to specialize in certain areas or can complete complementary courses in interdisciplinary areas as part of their studies. Furthermore, the University of Salzburg offers numerous extra-occupational university courses, which in part are done in cooperation with external educational institutions. Excellent results are achieved in the area of fundamental research as well as applied research at the University of Salzburg.
The Rector is selected by the University Council from a binding shortlist of three candidates proposed by the Senate for a term of four years (01.10.2023 – 30.09.2027), a re-election is permitted. The work involved with this position is based on a target agreement as well as an employment contract, both to be concluded with the University Council.
Applicants for the position as Rector should have international experience and the ability to lead the University organisationally and economically.
Furthermore, a completed university education is required. Candidates should also have experience in the organisation of reform processes, skills regarding academic research and teaching, leadership, integration and communication skills, personnel management and development, knowledge of the tertiary education sector as well as the scientific and research system in Austria and internationally and knowledge of the Austrian administrative organisation and university organisation.
The applications should document that the applicants fulfil the qualification requirements as mentioned above.Apart from the usual application documents, a description of the conceptual ideas regarding the leadership and further development of the University is expected. It is furthermore expected that the applicants are willing to present themselves and their ideas in a public hearing.
