Research Assistant / Doctoral Candidate (m/f)
in the area Association Management and Economics of Innovation.
The position is linked to a European "Horizon 2020" research project that deals with the assessment of regulatory bottlenecks for the process industry in Europe and the way different European industrial associations manage them. The candidate will work at the premises of ECREF, together with the German Refractories Association (member of the European Ceramic Industry Association as representative of a significant process industry) and in close proximity to WHU. The refractory sector is a key sector in the European process industry, with refractory products being a vital element in all high-temperature industrial processes.
The candidate will be supported by ECREF staff on day-by-day basis and by Professor Christina Günther of WHU on the topic of association management and economics of innovation. The candidate will represent the European refractory industry in the consortium of the research project at their meetings in Brussels.
You are an ambitious team player and highly motivated to work in a research project on a European level.
You hold an excellent Master’s Degree in economics, business, political science or related areas.
You are able to work independently, interdisciplinary and goal-oriented.
You possess very good language skills in English.
In Europe, the process industry employs more than 6.8 million people and generates more than €1,600 billion turnover, representing 20 % of the total European manufacturing industry. The research activity will bring together all relevant stakeholders of the process industry (Chemical, Steel, Refractories/Ceramics, Cement, Minerals, Metals, Water and Engineering) to jointly propose solutions to overcome regulatory bottlenecks that hamper the innovation processes and market uptake of the results of innovation activities.
Candidates will be fully engaged in this research activity, dealing directly with project partners from the different sectors of the process industry and with European industrial associations in Brussels. The research activity will include identification and analysis of existing limitations of EU regulation and standardisation by consultation of the sectorial European industrial associations, prioritisation of the regulatory bottlenecks and developing recommendations for dealing with standards and regulations between the European industrial associations.
The contract will initially last two years, starting on September 1st, 2017 at the earliest. Applicants should submit their application including a CV and a cover letter summarizing their research experience, interests and relations to the research topic in general by E-Mail.
