Job description
The goal of our project within the Virtual Materials Design (VirtMat) is to systematically explore and demonstrate the tremendous opportunities that arise from theory-guided design of novel materials. The specific applications of the designed molecules and materials include also photochemical conversions and catalysis, as well as photoactive components for nanoscale 3d printing or optical computing.
You will investigate electronic structure and excited states properties of light active molecules (chromophores), including their photoreactivity, electrooptical responses and nonlinear-optic properties. Not only the functionality of a candidate molecule will be modelled, but also its assembly in the material, interactions with other components and properties of devices. Material candidates will be synthesized and characterized by other project partners in the materials research program of the Helmholtz association, the largest publicly funded German research organization. Data analysis, visualization, preparation of publications for international journals, participation in conferences, workshop and lecture courses are also required.

Personal qualification
We are seeking for candidates with a theoretical focus in physics or chemistry as university degree (Master). In addition, you should have a profound knowledge in theoretical physics/chemistry with focus on theoretical condensed matter physics/ theoretical chemistry, experience in application of simulation methods for calculation of electronic properties of molecules, photoconversion, reaction dynamics, photochemistry. You should be familiar with methods to compute the conformation and electronic structure of molecules, e.g. simulation skills with molecular dynamics software or quantum chemistry software. Programming skills (Python, Fortran) and very good English writing and comprehension skills are also required.
