This core facility participates in research and teaching in the life sciences with a focus on imaging techniques. To fully exploit the collaborative potential of such a core facility, we are seeking a Senior Scientist with the knowledge, expertise, motivation, and enthusiasm to lead this important facility. The position is currently limited to 6 months with the possibility of subsequent unlimited employment.
Duration of employment: 6 month/s
Extent of Employment: 40.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
The Senior Scientist will be heading the Core Facility Cell Imaging and Ultrastructure Research CIUS at the Faculty of Life Sciences to support researchers that apply a diverse range of microscopy techniques. With a thorough expertise in advanced light and electron microscopy, the successful candidate is responsible for the maintenance of the technical equipment and the development of novel applications. As the main representative of the Core Facility, the Senior Scientist will assist and train users, participate in teaching, and organise the communication with the users of CIUS within the Faculty and beyond.
Profile:
The successful candidate is experienced in advanced light microscopy as well as scanning and transmission electron microscopy including sample preparation, ultrathin sectioning as well as fluorescence and immunolabelling techniques. The applicant has expertise in managing service facilities at a research institution and a track record in project support from methodological design and execution via supervision of personnel and collaborative work.
Successful candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Doctoral degree/PhD in biology, physics, biotechnology or any other related field and post-doctoral experience in the area of microscopy.
- Experience in advanced imaging methods, including light, fluorescence and electron microscopy.
- The applicant has been following the scientific development in the field of advanced microscopy methods.
- The applicant speaks and writes fluently English.
