Bauhaus Luftfahrt is an interdisciplinary research institution funded by the four aerospace companies Airbus, Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft (IABG), Liebherr-Aerospace, and MTU Aero Engines as well as grants from the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy, and Technology. The non-profit association is an internationally oriented think tank. Its team of around 50 employees deals with the future of mobility in general and with the development of air travel in particular. The goal of the research work is to consider the complex system of aviation from different points of view. In every project, the technical, economic, social, and ecological aspects are considered holistically.
This work uses the existing Bauhaus Luftfahrt database containing future trends and drivers (e.g. urbanization, ageing of society) and develops a tool to document related data, to generate automated analyses and queries based on this data as well as to visualize dependencies between different developments. One focus of the work is hence the development of a database in which information on future trends such as definition, timeline and impact on different aviation-stakeholders can be captured. The second main emphasis of the work is placed on the visualization of dependencies between different trends and the generation of interactive information which can be filtered according to specific questions.
