Survey Methodologist (m/f/div)
in the SHARE project at the earliest possible date.
The position is limited until December 31
st, 2022. A prolongation of the contract may be possible but is dependent on future funding. SHARE, the “Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe” is a large international social science panel study. The data combines extensive cross-national information on socioeconomic status, health and family relations of Europe’s elder population. We are seeking a highly motivated survey researcher with a keen interest to play an active role in developing and shaping the future of SHARE with respect to methodological innovations.
Your tasks will include:
- Developing a conceptual framework to accompany and analyse the switch from pure face-to-face interviewing to a mix with other survey modes (mixed-mode design)
- Developing guidelines for implementing a mixed-mode questionnaire design
- Developing, improving and implementing procedures for flexible frequency interviewing
- Coordination, process definition and documentation of methodological experiments to analyse the impact of mode effects in a mixed mode design
- Conducting own (substantial and/or methodological) research with SHARE data, in particular regarding mode effects, survey non-response and interviewer effects
The ideal candidate would bring the following qualifications:
- University degree in social sciences, demography, statistics, economics, public health, epidemiology, data science or a related field (with or without PhD, but pre-doc applicants should be willing to pursue a PhD in one of the methodological fields mentioned above)
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative data analysis and statistical software, preferable Stata (or R, SPSS); good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Strong experience regarding survey methodological questions and in evaluating data quality issues (e.g. mode effects, non-response, panel care, machine learning)
- Experience with large-scale (cross-national) surveys desirable
- Self-organized and highly proactive working style, team player mentality
- Strong proficiency in English, good knowledge of German desirable
Compensation will be in accordance with German TVöD (salary scale E 13 TVöD) and the relevant experience of the candidate.
