The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Digital Fabrication«
to begin in winter semester 2018/19. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is funded by the Federal Tenure Track Programme.
The professorship belongs to the Department of Architecture and is affiliated with the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering. The Department of Architecture is pursuing a research-oriented teaching approach in cooperation with public organizations and companies. It has an excellent reputation in architectural research throughout Germany. In recent years, the department has forged further structural partnerships and joined interdisciplinary research networks. It is particularly well-connected with the other engineering disciplines at TUM.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of digital fabrication. The teaching load includes courses in the university‘s bachelor and master programs. The core area of this professorship is on digital processes in architecture with a focus on additive construction principles, industrial (mass customized) fabrication, robot-based applications, building product design and their integration into the planning and construction process. The candidate is expected to join our research networks on additive manufacturing, digital methods (LOC), conservation and rebuilding (REUSED), TUM.wood as well as mass customized construction (ZNB).
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected. The professorship is open to researchers from the field of architecture and engineering with additional background in informatics as well as advanced professional experience in digital fabrication. Proven ability to gain and to lead cooperative research projects and to attracting third-party funding (DFG, EDU, industry) is mandatory.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor.
