Tenure Track Assistant Professor (W2) - Technische Universität München (TUM) - Logo
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) and Helmholtz Zentrum München - German Research Center for Environmental Health jointly invite applications for the position of

Tenure Track Assistant Professor
in »Translational Optoacoustics«

to begin at the earliest possible date. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor).
Scientific environment
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Medicine and will be affiliated with the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging at Helmholtz Zentrum München, and the TUM Center for Translational Cancer Research (TranslaTUM). The TUM School of Medicine is globally renowned for its strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research and its embrace of state-of-the-art technology for prevention, early diagnosis, and precision medicine. Helmholtz Zentrum München is an internationally renowned research center that develops fundamental principles for personalized medicine of the future. Close interactions among the Helmholtz Zentrum, the TUM Department of Engineering and various TUM departments in life sciences ensure a highly stimulating and productive nexus in biomedical engineering.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the position include research, teaching and promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of optoacoustic imaging and sensing technology, including macroscopy, microscopy and data analytics with potential for clinical translation. The successful candidate will strengthen optoacoustic imaging as a stand-alone technology or as part of multi-modality systems, as well as promote its clinical translation. Teaching will involve courses in bachelor and master programs at TUM, including in the newly established master course "Biomedical Engineering".
Qualifications
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. International research experience is expected. Candidates should have demonstrated the ability to acquire third-party funding for collaborative research projects (e.g. from the DFG, EU, or BMBF) and to actively collaborate on such projects. Candidates who have previously obtained an advanced personal research fellowship (such as from the ERC or from the DFG's Heisenberg Program) are particularly encouraged to apply.
Our Offer
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply.
TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research environment of the Greater Munich Area. As a rule, the successful candidate will not be employed as a "Beamter" under German law but instead as a university professor under private law. The successful candidate will be granted leave of absence by TUM in order to lead the Research Group in "Translational Optoacoustics" at the Helmholtz Zentrum München based on a private-law employment agreement.
The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. MDCO provides assistance for relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accompanying family members.
Your Application
TUM and Helmholtz Zentrum München are equal opportunity employers. As such, we explicitly encourage applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Application documents should be submitted in accordance with TUM's application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System are available at www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting. Here you will also find TUM's on collecting and processing personal data as part of the application process.
Please send your application no later than 8 November 2019 to the Dean of the TUM School of Medicine, Prof. Peter Henningsen, Ismaninger Str. 22, 81675 Munich. Email address for applications:
dekanat.medizin@tum.de.
