Tenure Track Assistant Professor - Sustainable Catalysis
Applications are invited for a position as Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry (chem.au.dk) and affiliated with the Danish National Research Center, the Carbon Dioxide Activation Center (CADIAC). The opening is in the field of sustainable catalysis in synthetic organic chemistry, including areas such as single atom catalysis, molecular electrocatalysis, and homogeneous catalysis. The intended start is spring 2020 or as soon as possible. The place of work is Department of Chemistry, Langelandsgade 140, DK-8000 Aarhus C.
The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University is one of the leading European chemistry departments with a broad research program. It has a permanent staff of ~30 full, associate and assistant professors, a support-staff of ~30 people, ~100 PhD students, ~50 postdocs and around 400 students. The Department of Chemistry seeks to strengthen its program by appointing a Tenure Track Assistant Professor to lead and develop research and teaching activities in sustainable catalysis. The ideal candidate has a track record and expertise in the application of catalytic techniques to promote synthetic organic chemistry. The candidate is expected to build an independent research group and conduct an active research program, which is internationally recognised.
Applicants for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position must be able to demonstrate potential for excellent research and teaching. Extensive postdoctoral training (minimum 2 years) or similar is expected (see below for tenure-track program).
Interest and competences in teaching chemistry at all levels of university education is essential. Accordingly, the successful candidate is able to teach introductory chemistry courses as well as undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the field of organic and/or catalytic chemistry. Teaching can be in Danish and English, depending on the course. We offer didactics courses to applicants who have not yet fulfilled such requirements.
We expect our new colleague to value and participate in the general academic work at the Department of Chemistry. This includes serving on committees, solving tasks with colleagues, helping with and giving feedback to colleagues etc. Similarly, the colleagues may help you as well, for example in relation to applications for external funding.

CADIAC is a Center of Excellence at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Aarhus University with laboratories located at the Department of Chemistry and the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center. The aim of CADIAC is to identify new chemical sciences and technologies for CO2 valorization through a multifaceted research endeavor merging solid nanoscience and chemistry competences in homogeneous transition metal catalysis, surface chemistry, electrochemistry, and hybrid organic/inorganic materials.

Science and Technology Tenure Track
Aarhus University offers talented scientists from around the world attractive career perspectives via the Science and Technology Tenure Track Programme. Highly qualified candidates are appointed as Assistant Professors for a period of six years with the prospect of performance- based advancement to a tenured Associate Professorship.
The aim of the Science and Technology Tenure Track Programme is to:

As part of the tenure track position, the candidate is offered:

As part of the Aarhus University Tenure Track Programme, the University carries out a mid-way evaluation to review the progress of the tenure track candidate after three years, according to the same criteria used in the final tenure review. The final tenure review is conducted after five and a half years. If the review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor at Aarhus University.
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications - and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, - the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.
