Tenure Track Assistant Professorship (W2) in "Law, Science, and Technology"

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of
Tenure Track Assistant Professor in »Law, Science, and Technology«
to begin in summer semester 2018. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a
tenured W3 position (Associate Professor). The professorship is endowed by the Elitenetzwerk Bayern.
The professorship belongs to the TUM School of Governance and is affiliated with the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS).
The TUM School of Governance focuses its research and teaching on the interaction between politics, society and technology, for
instance to integrate future technologies into the political dialogue and decision-making.
The MCTS is representing a cross-faculty integrative research center focusing on the interface between science, technology and society.
The Center’s research agenda is dedicated to Science and Technology Studies with a comprehensive orientation towards technology,
technosciences and technical universities.
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert
in the research area of law, science and technology with a focus on legal issues mentioned science, technology and society in a perspective
of social sciences, and with an empirical and/or theoretical focus in legal regulation (e.g. legislation, law trail, basic right) in
modern societies and political arrangement. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs,
explicitly in the newly established Elite Master’s Program "Responsibility in Science, Engineering, and Technology" (RESET).
We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated initial scientific achievements and the capacity for independent research at the
highest international standards. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification as well
as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is
expected. Experience in studies in law, Science & Technology Studies, and social theory as well as in building and maintaining
interdisciplinary links between natural and engineering sciences and humanities are mandatory. Experiences in applying for third-party
funding for interdisciplinary projects are preferred.
Based on best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career option for
tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor.
