The Department of Religious Studies invites applications for a 6-year postdoctoral position at the level of university assistant. We seek a scholar who conducts research of high-level international standing in the History of Alternative Religious Currents (with a focus on esoteric and occult traditions) paired with an expertise in Comparative Religion as well as in one or more additional religions (preference is given to South Asian Religions). Holding a Ph.D. in Religious Studies (or a related discipline) by the start of the appointment, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute more generally to the Department’s teaching programme (according to the collective bargaining agreement), especially its M.A. curriculum, while sharing in the Department’s and Faculty’s intellectual life. The candidate will need to demonstrate an outstanding and sustained international track record of research achievement and mobility commensurate with the level of experience that can reasonably be expected for this position. Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §49 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Active participation in research, teaching, and administration. This involves – Developing and strengthening the independent research profile – Involvement in research projects / research studies – International publications and presentations – Responsibility for project applications and the acquisition of third-party funding – Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) habilitation thesis – Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement – Supervision of students – Participation in evaluation measures and quality assurance – Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Ph.D. in Religious Studies (or a related discipline)-
Professional competence in the field of History of Alternative Religious Currents-

Excellent command of written and oral language in English-
