The Division of Microbial Ecology at the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic PhD student in the field of gut microbiome studies. We are an international, committed team and offer an interdisciplinary scientific environment, cutting-edge laboratories, a creative working atmosphere and flexible working times.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration. This includes:
+ Involvement in a research project on the gut microbiome of premature infants
+ Publications and presentations
+ Involvement in project applications for third-party funding
+ Teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
+ Supervision of trainees and students
We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within the next 12-18 months.
+ Diploma or masters degree in biology, molecular biology, or equivalent qualification
+ Excellent command of written and spoken English
+ High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
+ Excellent team-working ability
+ Good knowledge and experience with experimental methods in molecular microbial ecology
+ Excellent knowledge in bioinformatics methods for sequence-centered analyses
+ Excellent knowledge in phylogenomics and comparative genomics
+ Profound knowledge about gut microbiota is desirable
Methodological competences (one or more of the following):
+ Experience with genomics and metagenomics analyses desirable
+ Experience with DNA isolation, 16s rRNA gene sequencing, metagenomics and transcriptomics, metabolomics, FACS, ELISA, Leucocyte isolation, whole blood analysis, and neurophysiological measurements desirable
In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have very good communication and organizational skills.
