As a driver of innovation, TU Wien strengthens the business location, enables cooperation and contributes to the prosperity of society.At the Faculty of Informatics, Institute of Information Systems Engineering the position of a University Professor for the specialist field of "High Performance Computing Systems" with permanent (full-time) contractual employment is to be filled as of February 1, 2021.
This is a professorship regulated by § 98 of the 2002 Universities Act (UG).
This professorship shall both strengthen the research profile of the Faculty of Informatics at TU Wien and contribute substantially to the two main research areas Information & Communication Technology and Computational Science and Engineering of TU Wien. The Faculty of Informatics, one of the eight faculties at the TU Wien, plays an active role in national and international research and has an excellent reputation. The research foci of the Faculty of Informatics are Computer Engineering, Logic and Computation, Visual Computing & Human-Centered Technology, as well as Information Systems Engineering.
HPC spans a wide range of complementary aspects, ranging from HPC Hardware Architectures, HPC System Design and Management, Algorithmic and Mathematical Foundations to Modeling and Simulation of HPC Systems and Infrastructure. Applicants shall have expertise in at least two of the following areas:
HPC Hardware Architectures,
HPC System Architectures and Infrastructure,
HPC System Software and Resource Management,
Algorithmic and Mathematical Foundations of HPC,
Modeling and Simulation Techniques for HPC,
HPC application areas (Scientific Computing, Large-Scale Data Management, Machine Learning, Computational System Design, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Material Science, etc.).
Besides research, the duties of a Full Professor at the TU Wien include graduate and undergraduate teaching (in German and English) as well as contributing to usual management and faculty service tasks.
Completed doctoral or PhD studies corresponding to the deployment described from a domestic or equivalent foreign university or research institution
The qualification for lecturing (venia docendi) acquired at a domestic or equivalent foreign university or an academic qualification recognised as equivalent to qualification as a university lecturer
An outstanding research and publication record
An excellent reputation as an active member of the international scientific community
Experience in the acquisition, execution and management of research projects
The ability and willingness to manage a research group
Pedagogic and didactic suitability for academic teaching in German and English
Experience in the supervision of scientific work of students, such as diploma and master theses as well as dissertations
Ideally, the prospective position holder has social and gender competence or experience in the promotion of young researchers and the advancement of female students/colleagues/employees
In case there is no adequate knowledge of German, willingness to quickly learn German is presupposed for teaching in bachelor programmes and participation in management of the institute and the faculty as well as in university bodies
Continuous on-site presence is expected

Classification in the A1 category of the collective bargaining agreement for employees of universities and a full-time minimum salary of EUR 73.438,40 gross annual is provided for. A higher salary depending on qualifications and experience is categorically a subject of appointment negotiations.
