The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER), established by Electricité de France (EDF) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), located in Karlsruhe is currently looking for an

Engineer f/m

in the field of steam water electrolysis and material characterizations

to work in the group Low Carbon Hydrogen Systems.

EIFER (European Institute for Energy Research) was established in 2001 as collaboration between the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Electricité de France (EDF). It is located near the Centre of Karlsruhe in the Technology Park of the city. The institute gathers an international team of more than 100 researchers and offers a comfortable working environment equipped with advanced research facilities.

The activities of Low Carbon Hydrogen Systems (around 20 researchers) embrace Hydrogen chain value (from production to usage) including upstream research and development of components, systems trials in the laboratory and in demonstration field projects, technical and economic studies, technologies and market potentials assessment and strategic positioning. They are fostered by a smart network of academic and industrial partners and a commitment in several national (French and German) and European funding research projects dealing with low carbon hydrogen production (steam water electrolysis process) and usages (fuel cell).

The assigned tasks involve
  • Project management assistance, following time schedule, reporting, budget and respect of the objectives
  • Physico-chemical and structural characterizations techniques of cell system and material components (post-test analysis, XR diffractions, microscopy observations, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy etc.)
  • Assessment of electrical performances and reliability of systems
  • Technical knowledge of hydrogen technologies with capacity of optimization of their operation through lab synthesis & process and lab tests
Required qualifications / skills / interests
  • The job applicant should hold a Master degree educational level (or equivalent) or higher in engineering (preferably in energy or environmental sciences engineering)
  • The applicant should be interested in the field of energy. Previous knowledge/experience in hydrogen technologies and research would be an asset
  • The position requires interdisciplinary and analytical thinking, good presentation and communication skills, ability to work independently and responsibly in a structured way and to convey clear and efficient messages
  • The position requires a strong ability for team working
  • A professional level of English and French is compulsory. A good knowledge in German would be of value.
Conditions
The duration of the position is initially 2 years with the option of extension, starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on qualification and experience.
