PhD Positions in the Research Training Group (RTG 1947) "BiOx"
The Research Training Group "Biochemical, biophysical and biomedical effects of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species
on biological membranes" (RTG 1947) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) welcomes applications for up to
for a three-year structured program (initially 18 months fixed-term positions). Start of the program will be October 1, 2017 and the end on September
30, 2020, subject to the availability of budget funds for further 18 months. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft if the
personal and pay group specific qualifications can be provided.
The RTG is based at the University of Greifswald, in cooperation with the University Medicine Greifswald. One PhD project is partially located at Hannover Medical School.
The scientific goal of this RTG is to undertake interdisciplinary and interfaculty based studies of the biochemical, -physical and -medical effects of
reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, in biochemical and cellular systems, in order to understand the importance of the interplay between biochemical,
biophysical and (patho-)physiological factors, and to discover new interactions of ROS/RNS with biological membranes.
The RTG is organized in three intimately linked focus areas with multiple methodological overlap:
(A) Production and membrane-targeting of ROS/RNS. (B) Chemical and physico-chemical effects of ROS/RNS on membranes. (C) (Patho-)physiological consequences of ROS/RNS modified membranes. Requirements
overall above-average University degree (master or equivalent) in one of the above disciplines such as life sciences, chemistry, physics or related fields
advanced English language skills (written & spoken)
What we offer
A teaching program accompanies the interdisciplinary research strategy. It covers the different disciplines, both by lectures and by practical classes.
In addition, workshops allow the participants to interact and network. Each PhD project has two supervisors from different disciplines. For further

What we expect
Beyond the passion for and experience in research, we expect the active participation in the RTG and the readiness to take the extra step of an interdisciplinary
approach towards a PhD. The participation in the teaching program is mandatory.

two letters of recommendation.
Application deadline is July 28th 2017.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to Greifswald in August 2017 to an applicants day. On that day applicants will present themselves to
the RTG but also get the opportunity to meet the principle investigators of the projects they have applied for.
