The PK/PD unit, led by Dr. Katharina Rox, within the Department of Chemical Biology (CBIO) is offering a position as

Postdoctoral researcher with a focus on PBPK/PD modelling (f/m/d)

The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research GmbH (HZI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the largest scientific organization in Germany. Scientists at the HZI develop strategies to better combat infectious diseases. Their goal is to develop novel approaches for the prevention, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases. To this end, they study bacterial and viral pathogens and their interaction with the immune system and explore new active ingredients.

The PK/PD unit within the Department of Chemical Biology (CBIO) aims to characterize novel anti-infectives and to bridge the gap between bench and bedside. The project aims to perform in silico analysis of novel PROTAC-compounds to establish pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) relationships from preclinical in vitro and in vivo data. The in silico PBPK/PD analysis aims to translate dose-response relationships to humans. Moreover, the in silico analysis will contribute to find the optimal dose for subsequent clinical trials. Finally, the methods developed in the project will advance PK/PD characterizations in the field.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for the investigation of pharmacological effects of novel PROTAC-compounds against viral diseases. For this purpose, PBPK and PBPK/PD models of novel PROTACs will be constructed and validated using in vitro and in vivo data. In vitro data will also be generated using cell uptake experiments and state-of-the-art mass spectrometric techniques. The major part of the work will consist in in silico modelling.

Requirements

Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. degree in pharmacology / clinical pharmacology / virology / biochemistry / biology / medicine or related disciplines with a focus on PBPK modelling and a track record of successful scientific work proven by peer-reviewed scientific publications. The candidates should be familiar with independent planning and construction of PBPK models. The candidate must have an independent, well-structured and goal-oriented working style. English language skills are mandatory. Expertise in mass spectrometry, in PBPK/PD modelling, in programming languages and /or cell biology is an advantage. We expect the candidate to work in a multidisciplinary and international team.
