General Call for Postdoc Positions within the ERC Advanced Grant INFRANORTH

The recently awarded ERC Advanced Grant INFRANORTH (PI Prof. Peter Schweitzer) at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology offers up to four postdoc positions (20 or 40 hours a week) for up to four years beginning after March 1, 2021.

The project (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/885646/de) focuses on how residents of the Arctic, both indigenous and non-indigenous, engage with transport infrastructures and tries to understand the role of existing and planned transport infrastructures regarding the future of human habitation and of sustainable communities in the Arctic.

In addressing these tasks, a relational affordance perspective will be adopted, which will document the material and non-material entanglements of local residents with transport infrastructures in the coastal areas of the three macro-regions of the Arctic: the Russian Arctic, the North American Arctic, and the European Arctic.

Social scientists – including anthropologists, geographers, and historians - with relevant research experience in the Arctic are encouraged to submit their applications (cover letter, CV, short writing sample) via the jobcenter of the University of Vienna. A first review round will take place shortly after January 1, 2021, and first positions will be filled by March 1, 2021.
