Position c. The Kiel University and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Marine Science (KMS) are looking for

1 Senior Scientist, Marine Resources and Hazard Risk Assessment

You will have a research profile in the field of marine non-living resources and/or natural hazards with a focus on the assessment of associated opportunities and risks as well as a proven record of interdisciplinary research at the interface of natural sciences and social sciences or humanities as well as experience in transdisciplinary cooperation with stakeholders from non-academic sectors.

For further information on this position, please contact: Prof. Dr. Sebastian Krastel, skrastel@geophysik.uni-kiel.de

For both senior scientist positions the following requirements are critical:
  • PhD in a discipline within the broad field of marine science
  • a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral research experience
  • An outstanding international research publication and impact track record
  • Evidence of national and international personal networks in the field
  • Proven record of successful grant application
  • Evidence of inter- and transdisciplinary research and public outreach
Both positions will be at the Kiel Ocean Assessment and Solution Centre (KOAS) under the operational leadership of the Director (position a.) and with affiliation with a faculty depending on the disciplinary background of the successful candidate. You will have ample opportunities to work together with KMS scientists to develop a nationally and internationally visible research programme.

You are further encouraged to join other interdisciplinary projects and programmes in research and education at Kiel University, e.g. the Cluster of Excellence "The Future Ocean" or the "Kiel School of Sustainability" and work with partner institutions, such as e.g. GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel or the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

The positions will offer an environment of independent research in the fields of Marine Food Security or Marine Resources and Hazard Risk Assessment respectively. You will further have the opportunity to supervise graduate students at the School of Sustainability and within the framework of new marine master programmes to be established.

The successful applicants will have a permanent full-time position with regular working hours (currently 38.7 h/week) which comes with a teaching obligation based on the Lehrverpflichtungsverordnung (LVVO). The salary can be up to the class 14 TV-L. The positions can be split. Flexible working time models are generally possible.

Kiel University wishes to increase the number of female scientists in faculty positions and encourage applications of qualified women. Female applicants will be given priority if their qualifications and achievements are equal to those of male applicants.

Kiel University supports the employment of disabled persons. Applications from scientists with disabilities will be treated with priority in case of equal qualifications.

We explicitly encourage candidates with migration background to apply.

Applications in electronic form (one single PDF-file) including a curriculum vitae with contact details and without photograph, a list of publications, a documentation of teaching experience, a list of third-party projects, a short research agenda as well as copies of academic certificates should be submitted by 31st August 2018 to
